FOUNDATIONS
Everything you need to lay the foundation for your dancing. Basic steps, movement, directions, connection. You’ll get your feet moving and your heart beating and your mouth smiling. Prepares you for Foundations partnering.

Groove, sweat and laugh!
The purpose of this class is to get you dancing! You’ll learn what you need to get out on the dance floor. You’ll explore the dance and music, its concepts and terminology.

INT. FOOTWORK AND SHINES Take your footwork to the next level. Learn cool moves, get groovy, do some styling, find fast feet and smooth slides. This is a more advanced footwork class, appropriate for someone who feels comfortable in the Foundations footwork and technique

All the fundamentals of lead and follow you need to go get out there on the dance floor. This class builds on the footwork foundations laid in the first hour. For the beginning dancer, or the more experienced dancer coming back, or advanced dancer who wants to hone the basics. This class prepares you for Thursdays.

SPINS, SHINES n STYLE (Formerly Creative Expression)
All the elements you need to know to design your own unique dance and style. Techniques for spinning, shines, and style (men and women) will be broken down, explored, drilled and combined into sequences. Classes are student centered and dynamic. Expect to be challenged, to sweat, and to expand your dance.

~Have been dancing for a while and want to hone your technique

~Design your unique dance expression
~Take home elements to apply to social dancing and choreography
Your class begins with a quick and challenging warm-up. You continue with drills to develop spinning, footwork and body isolation technique. You will end by combining your new moves into a challenging choreography combination.
The purpose of this class is to build up your spins, shines and styling, add new moves to your repertoire and start developing your unique style and expression. You will dance across the floor and end each class with a fun collaborative footwork.

ADVANCED PARTNERING
All the cool moves and tricks of the trade. Learn to be a creative and smooth lead. Apply what you learn in S^3 to social dancing and partnering. We’ll work on multiple spins, direction changes, generating and controlling momentum in spins, flicks, tosses, drapes, hammerlocks, copas, and more! Come ready to test your brain and body!

Advanced Training Wednesday - 12 Weeks Session
“The training for people…who think training and working hard is fun.” --Aaron
Masacote is offering a 2-hour intensive training session on Wednesday nights with Aaron, Serena and G.
Come prepared to work your butt off and seriously uplevel your dance.
This is a training for people who want to launch their dance to the next level. Be ready to work hard, sweat, laugh and train, train, train. Each session will be full of drills, techniques, choreographies, insights and surprises.
This is the type of training Masacote dancers would receive before lighting the stage up performing an iconic Masacote choreography.
What you will work on:
Spin drills
Body isolations
Afro-cuban movement
Strength, conditioning and stamina
Footwork routines
Musicality and timing
Learn and dissect sections of Masacote’s legacy choreographies
and more.

Practice training sessions will:

The training will be focused around the curriculum presented by Aaron, inspired by professional-level Masacote dance training.

If you have not been pre-approved and want to try out:
1. Email us and let us know you’re interested!
2. Come to the first class. Your first class will include an assessment of your skills and level to ensure this class is a good fit for you.
3. There will be a standardized assessment form that the instructors will fill out and go over with you after class.
4. If we determine it is not the right fit we will make recommendations for alternative training opportunities and a time frame when Aaron’s training would be advantageous to you.
The class will be fast-paced, intense, and demanding, mentally and physically. This is for the serious dancer. It requires a certain foundational knowledge for it to be worthwhile. The last thing we would want is for you to invest in something that will not serve you.
Aaron Damus is a former principal dancer with Masacote, founding instructor of Masacote Dance School and a formally trained musician. He has over 20 years of experience teaching and dancing.

These classes take place physically at our CAC studio (215 First St. in Cambridge). To participate, purchase a Drop in or save more with a Membership below in advance of taking classes. Front desk staff will not be present to process registrations on-site.

Archived Virtual Classes
Description: This class explores the basics of choreography and encourages using space to create individual movements. We will focus on body movement drills, isolation techniques, and most importantly, finding your groove (your own way of communicating through the dance in general). We will also explore the many styles of movement including hip-hop, jazz, modern, martial arts and acrobatics and even sports-like movements. Before getting into these movements, we’ll start the class with routine warm-up techniques to prepare the body for Afro-Cuban and Rumba fundamentals.
Each month we will work on a combination that includes a specific technique and body isolation that pulls it all together to support your body’s fluidity. Eligibility: This class is open to everyone looking to gain body awareness (and have fun). All stages & drop-ins welcomed!
Flow Into Movement - 2021

Class Description: This class will focus on body movement drills, isolation techniques, and most importantly, finding your groove! Through Afro-Cuban and Rumba fundamentals, students will find different ways to connect to music, as well as the quality and execution of the movement.
Every month you will work on a specific combination that focuses on putting it all together! Work on a series of movement & body isolation techniques to get your body moving more fluidly. Stretches will be introduced. These will be stationary (NO footwork). For both Men & Women looking to gain more awareness in body isolations.
