About the Afro Salsa Fusion with Cuban Movement

We will host different workshops throughout the year where you will have the opportunity to do more than just learn salsa. You will explore the various forms of the Afro movements, dance and percussion tradition through different movements and sounds representing the Orishas (deities from the African traditions). Making this connection will allow you to embrace dance and the music through a cultural context in community with other salsa dancers.

Javier is visiting from Havana, Cuba and residing in Boston, where he and Anara have performed, trained, and taught extensively, most recently at the Boston Salsa Festival.

Javier specializes in performing and teaching Afro-Cuban folkloric, traditional and modern music and dance genres, as well as Cuban modern, ballet, and improvisation techniques. His passion is creating unique fusions that honor the roots, celebrate creativity and connect deeply to the music, rhythms and spirituality.

Anara founded MetaMovements in 2006 and has led dance exchanges in the US, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic and has trained thousands of students and instructors across a variety of genres, including Latin Dances from New York, LA, Cuba & the DR, as well as Modern Dance,…
