A Personal Note from Ana

To My Masacote Family

When Joel and I started Masacote, my business school professors told me it wouldn’t be sustainable. We started it anyway. In the first year alone, we lost all our savings on a failed venture, got into massive debt producing our first music album, and learned to live off ramen noodle soups and $1 cheeseburgers. But faith is for the things that take a little time, and 15 years later, we’ve danced our way into the lives of countless souls around the world through classes, shows, music, and events.

On a personal level, Masacote has always been a chosen family for this Texas girl away from home. We celebrated birthdays and holidays together, leaned on one another during times of need, and nurtured our collective dreams. And so it is with bittersweet emotions that I share I will be stepping down as a coach of Masacote, effective at the end of this year, in order to make space for my personal artistic work.

This does not mean I am “leaving” Masacote. I will continue as program director of the August Salsa Retreats and will remain on Masacote’s advisory board. We will also offer periodic guest workshops, but my last official evening class at the school will be Wed, Dec 18, 2019.

Please note that Masacote directors have been planning this transition for some time, and they’ll be following up with an updated schedule for next year. I’m in awe of the exceptional and dedicated team I’ve had the privilege to be a part of at the school, and I know without a doubt that you’ll be in loving hands.

To my MASATribe, I’ve poured my soul into Masacote, and I’ll always carry you in my heart. I am incredibly grateful to you for trusting me in your dance journey and for lifting me throughout the years. I look forward to sharing my art with you in time, and as I embark on this next chapter, I hope you will continue to hold space and that I’ll have your support for years to come.

With love,

-Ana Masacote

“Thank you so much for everything you did for the Mambo Mania family concert. It was a pleasure getting to know and working closely with you. Including dance in this family concert really added so much to this show. And I loved that we were able to weave in some showcase dancing along with an opportunity to get the audience up and dancing. It was the perfect icing on the cake for this very special family concert.”
